A hoarding caught my attention when I was standing in a queue, at 7 in the morning, outside Bandra Railway Station to board into an auto rickshaw. The hoarding is in front of the Bandra Railway Station, across the road. It’s a big hoarding that says that the disciples of Asaram Bapu are going to celebrate “Parent’s Worship Day” on the day of love; Valentine’s Day. The hoarding had pictures of men and women serving their parents. The hoarding also mentioned incidents of men and women being punished for celebrating Valentine’s Day in an indecent manner.
I’m not against celebrating Parent’s Worship Day. I believe that very few will speak against celebrating Parent’s Worship Day. But, I’m against celebrating Parent’s Worship Day on the day of love; on Valentine’s Day. The disciples of Asaram Bapu are celebrating Parent’s Worship Day on Feb 14, instead of before/after Feb 14, in order to condemn Valentine’s Day. I cannot stand that.
At the most you can tell, just tell, the youth how to celebrate Valentine’s Day but to make efforts to erase Valentine’s Day from the calendars is simply unacceptable. The disciples of Asaram Bapu are trying to influence the youth by using sentiments to block their rationality.
Police took stringent actions on 14th February against the corrupted youth indulging in immoral acts by celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Let me explain my opinion with an example. It’s acceptable to donate money to the poor but it’s unacceptable to donate money to the poor a day before the elections in order to buy votes. It’s not solely the act of donation that matters; even why/how/when the donation is made is of importance.
Some would say, “Valentine’s Day is the day of love and thus there’s nothing wrong in celebrating Parent’s Worship Day on Valentine’s Day as we all love our parents, don’t we?”
I repeat, I’m not against celebrating Parent’s Worship Day but I’m against celebrating it on Valentine’s Day in order to condemn Valentine’s Day. Also, we all know that Valentine’s Day is the day of love but it’s the romantic form of love that we’re talking about and not the parental/friendly form of love.
Some people are of the opinion that Valentine’s Day is spoiling the youth. I seriously do not understand how Valentine’s Day is spoiling the youth. These people are of the opinion that Valentine’s Day encourages the youth to have sex. I see nothing wrong in that. Also, the youth can indulge in sex even on days other than Feb 14th.
It’s high time that we leave our stereotypes and stop being hypocrites. As a matter of fact, many of us owe our existence to romance. Some may take the cover of the Indian Culture to stand against Valentine’s Day but, amusingly, Kamasutra comes from our culture.
If the disciples of Asaram Bapu are against Valentine’s Day then they should also stand against every form of marriage. If they’re against celebrating the day of love, they’re against romance and if they’re against romance, they should divorce their other half ASAP. Also, they should not allow their children to get married. Oh, wait! How do they have children if they do not believe in romance? Maybe they do not believe in romance but they do not mind indulging in romance. What a bunch of hypocrites!
I believe that it is not Valentine’s Day that is spoiling the youth but it is the narrow outlook toward things that is spoiling the masses. We’ve become the nation of hypocrites. The Indian masses should stop following the herd before the one leading the herd leads them to the cliff of a mountain and falls down.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with love, not hypocrisy. Remove the cloth tied around your head, above your eyes.
I will request my Readers to comment on this blog post. I’m interested in knowing the opinion of others.
